ILAM

                 Ilam (Nepali: इलाम) is a district that lies in Hilly reason of Nepal. It is located in Koshi Province. It consists of lots of tourist destinations among which Kanyam, Fikkal, Pashupatinagar, Maipokhari, and Ilam Bazar are some major attractions.

This places also attracts researchers who mainly go there for different are animals like red panda. This district is extended from Terai region to upper hilly region of Nepal.

History

 The name Ilam is taken from the ‘Limbu language’ where ‘IL’ means twisted whereas ‘LAM’ means road. Before unification of Nepal, Ilam was one the of the ten Limbuwan state with self-governance. The ruler Hangsu Fuba Lingdam ruled over Ilam till 1813 A.D.

Due to the treaty between Limbuwan state and Gorkha in 1774 A.D and the war between Gorkha and Sikkim . Ilam was unified by Gorkha. Among the 10 Limbuwan state Ilam was the last one to be unified by the Gurkhas. The king of Gorkha gave the ruler of Ilam to rule as the price of loyalty.

Geography

                 The district extends from 800m in the south to 3,636 m in the north. It occupies about 1,700 sq.km area. The district headquarter Ilam Bazar is one of the famous place for tea Garden which is around 600 km from capital Kathmandu. According to the census of 2011 AD, Ilam had a population of 290,254 people among which most are Rai and Limbu.

Different places of Ilam;

               Ilam especially Garden. The tea of Ilam is famous for tea and tea is famous for tea and tea Garden. The tea of Ilam is distributed to different parts of Nepal and exported to another countries as well.

Among different place Kanyam is one of the most famous places for tea Garden. After which , Ilam Bazar, Fikkal, Pashupatinagar, Antu Dada(shree Antu), Maipokhari etc. are same major attraction.

The people here mainly depends on farming (especially cash crop like tea, cardamom, garlic, potato, Amriso (a plant used to make broom) and milk products like milk, Churpi, cheese and lollipop (local sweet).

How can we reach Ilam???

From Kathmandu different vehicle like bus, micro, sumo etc. deports daily for Ilam. Which is a bit less expensive but a longer Way. If you have plenty of time and love to see natural beauties and different places then this is the way you go.

And next way is by air; now there is an airport in Ilam a well (Fagunananda airport). You can go directly or go up to Jhapa by air and then use road ways too. This process is shorter but expensive then road ways. You can choose either of the ways which y like fits in your budget.
