One of the major tourist destination for viewing natural sites and especially tea garden is Kanyam which lies in Ilam district of Nepal. It is situated in Suryodaya municipality of Ilam district, Koshi Province. Due to its natural beauty Kanyam is also called Queen of east.

Thousands of tourists visit Kanyam yearly which has a major attraction for tea and tea garden, the climate there and greenery around. Reaching there provides heavenly feeling.
Geography and Weather
It is situated at a height of 6,000 feet from sea level. From Charaali, Kanyam is just about 35 km whereas Ilam’s headquarter Ilam Bazar is around 43km away. Fikkal, Pashupatinagar and Antu Dada are some nearest tourist destination from Kanyam.
As there are no any hotels or homestays, you should either reach Fikkal which is about 5 km from there or you can move to Ilam Bazar too. Wind continuously blow there which makes the site seeing of tea garden more enjoyable.
Terrace farming has made this place even more beautiful, and promotes farming of cash crops too. Mainly this place is known to watch sunrise. We can view Kanchenjunga Mountain, Terai, Darjeeling, Sikkim, Mirik and a little part of Bay of Bengal when the weather’s clear.
Kanyam Tea Garden
The tea Garden known as Kanyam Tea Garden was started by Late king Birendra by planting the tea plant. It occupies about 240 hector of land, in which around 200 hector is completely filled with tea.
From there around 125 thousand kilos of tea is produced. The industry is situated to 5,500 feet and the product is so good that they are transported all over Nepal and exported to other country as well.
How can we reach Kanyam?
We can get a direct vehicle to Kanyam from Kathmandu or you can go up to Jhapa by flight, then you can take vehicle as well. While travelling in vehicle you can see different sceneries and is cost friendly but takes a bit more time.
Whereas while travelling in plane you can reach faster and is a bit expensive. You can find direct flight to Jhapa from Kathmandu daily. You can also charter helicopter which is more expensive. Bikes and other vehicles like cars, jeep etc. can easily reach there. You can pick any method according to your time, budget and wish.
